One of the coolest “houses” at SXSW was Amazon’s Resistance Radio HQ, named for their show The Man in High Castle. What made it so great was that it was actually there for 4 of their shows and represented each of them. They cycled the show each night so that you could get a different experience every time you visited and really captured each show’s style. Each show got its own little party, gifts you could customize and get on the spot and themed cocktails. We have some pictures from the event to show off HQ as well as the shows in question.
During the SXSW Conference just about anything can happen, and that anything includes fictional restaurants you never imagined you’d get to visit. In the past we’ve seen Big Kahuna Burger from Pulp Fiction, but this year we were treated to Los Pollos Hermanos. If you aren’t familiar with this famous chicken restaurant then you must not be familiar with Breaking Bad or its prequel spin-off show Better Call Saul that brought it too SXSW. We get to take part in a special press day where the show’s star, Bob Odenkirk who plays Saul, and returning star Giancarlo Esposito who plays the drug dealing owner of the restaurant Gus, were present. Check out our pictures from the event below!
If you’re a film buff in Austin, TX you’ve definitely heard of Mondo Tees and if you’re from anywhere else there’s a fair chance. Mondo has consistently been a source of gorgeous popculture posters, art and most recently vinyl soundtracks that will pull on most nerd’s heart strings. If you recall we in the past from our Instagram we have covered a special gallery opening hosted by Drive director Nicholas Winding Refn, but this time it was a gallery show of a series of art by one of Mondo’s frequent contributor, Mike Mitchell. Mike has been working on a full series of Star Wars portraiture that is gorgeous and also goes quite deep into the series’ character library. We were invited to a press viewing before the doors officially opened and got some pictures of the gorgeous artwork we want to share with you now, after the jump.
Hello all and welcome to the first day of the SXSW Conference 2017! That’s right, the festivities start off today and I will be down there all week long. I will be trying to cover as many movies and events as I can with reviews and the like on the site, as well as a few interviews. But I will also be doing my best to keep Social Media updated too. If you want to keep up with me at the conference then you’ll want to follow me and the site on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Periscope. The links are as follows:
At Fantastic Fest 2014 John Wick premiered to a crowd a little dubious of a big star led action movie (we get plenty that are no more than marketing) and turned out to be an instant classic. Ben was there and got the chance to sit down with John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves, for an interview. As John Wick 2 premiers today we wanted to share that interview with you again. You can find the interview here and keep an eye out this weekend for our John Wick 2 review!
Hey there everyone, once again we are not dead just really behind on providing you with content. This time though it is with the news that we will be attending and covering SXSW for film and possibly some other segments of the festival. As such, still behind the announcement by a bit, we have our coverage of the announced films for you. Follow us after the jump for our early highlights as well as the full press release!
We’re running a bit late on our coverage of the announcements for Fantastic Fest, which regular readers will instantly recognize as our favorite film festival of the year. But we’re making up for that now with the listing of the first wave of films that will be shown at the festival! Follow us after the jump for some highlights from us as well as all the full press release and listing.
In our continued lead up to SXSW 2016 we’re happy to share the official poster for an interesting Western showing there call In a Valley of Violence. You’ve got a taste of it above already but we have the full poster after the jump as well as some more information on the movie.
Some of you who have been readers since way back may recall my close following of the short film Tub by Bobby Miller way back in 2010, and while I didn’t cover it on the site it did lead to my first festival and the first short film I owned on DVD. It was weird, quirky and dark which is just my style and part of why I was already a fan of Miller’s work from his web series. So why am I bringing this up? Well He has been working on his first feature for a few years now called The Master Cleanse and it’s now premiering at SXSW this year and I’m definitely excited to see it! We’re also excited to share the first official clip of it with you because it is cool and unsettling as much as we could hope. Follow us after the jump from the front page for the clip and some more info.
If you keep up with genre film and at least news from festivals you’ve likely heard of Hardcore Henry which debuted at TIFF and looked pretty interesting. The film is shot all in first person and is a pretty wild action movie it would seem with some super powers and gun based craziness. I will admit that I’m not sure how it will function as a full movie but it does look pretty cool, and it happens to be showing at SXSW. As such we’re happy to share this newest trailer for the movie and are interested to hear what you think of it in the comments below.
